Even if it would be convenient for many a beardless youth – hair neither grows faster nor does it get thicker through frequent cutting or shaving. But it looks like it – and there are reasons for that.
Do you know tips like: “Hair should be trimmed regularly . That makes it thicker!” or “Don’t shave your legs – otherwise your hair will grow back all the faster”? Then forget them very quickly. Because there is nothing to it.
There is a simple reason why the rumor persists that hair grows back stronger and faster if it is cut off or shaved off: the hair becomes thinner and thinner towards the tip. If the thin tip is cut off, the shorter hair appears thicker and fuller – especially if split ends also thin the hair at the ends.
In the case of stubble, only the thicker, upper part is visible
This effect also impairs perception when shaving: if, for example, the beard is shaved off and the beard hairs sprout, only the thicker, upper part of the hair can be seen – no wonder that they appear strong . In addition, regrowing hair is more noticeable on clean-shaven skin. In addition, the hair bleaches a little over time due to environmental influences, for example sunlight – freshly grown stubble is still unaffected by such influences and is therefore a little darker, which also makes it appear thicker.
Conclusion: Frequent hair cutting is unfortunately not a suitable method to get thicker hair or to counteract thinning hair. On the other hand, you are free to choose the method for removing unwanted hair – shaving does not make unloved hairs sprout faster.
